Lok Setu is a non-profit, public service initiative dedicated to bridging the gap between citizens and government services. We operate on the generous contributions of individuals and organizations who support our mission of creating a transparent, accountable, and empowered society.

While donations to Lok Setu are typically considered final contributions to support our social initiatives, we understand that exceptional circumstances may arise. This refund policy outlines the conditions under which donation refunds may be considered and processed.

Important: As a non-profit organization, donations to Lok Setu are used to fund our various public service initiatives including awareness programs, training camps, grievance redressal systems, and community support activities. Refunds are processed only under specific circumstances outlined in this policy.

2. Refund Eligibility

Refund requests may be considered under the following circumstances:

  • Technical Errors: If a donation was made due to a technical error on our website or payment gateway (e.g., duplicate transaction, incorrect amount charged).
  • Unauthorized Transaction: If a donation was made without the account holder's authorization or consent.
  • Accidental Donation: If a donation was made accidentally (e.g., mistaken amount, unintended donation).
  • Fraudulent Activity: If a donation was made as a result of fraudulent activity on your account.
  • Bank/Financial Institution Error: If your bank or financial institution processed the transaction in error.

Time Limit: Refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of the transaction date to be considered. Requests beyond this period may not be eligible for refund.

3. Non-Refundable Donations

Under normal circumstances, donations to Lok Setu are considered final and non-refundable for the following reasons:

  • Donations made voluntarily to support our ongoing public service initiatives
  • Contributions toward specific campaigns or programs that have already commenced
  • Funds that have already been allocated or utilized for community service activities
  • Donations made more than 14 days prior to the refund request
  • Contributions where tax exemption certificates have already been issued

Note: Once a donation has been processed and funds have been allocated to our social initiatives (training programs, awareness camps, grievance redressal systems), it cannot be refunded as these resources have already been deployed for public benefit.

5. Refund Timeline

Once a refund is approved, the processing time varies depending on the original payment method:

  • Credit/Debit Cards: 7-14 business days for the refund to reflect in your account
  • UPI Payments: 3-7 business days
  • Net Banking: 5-10 business days
  • Cheque/Bank Transfer: 10-15 business days

Notification: You will receive an email confirmation once your refund has been initiated. The exact time for the funds to appear in your account depends on your bank's processing time.

6. Special Circumstances

As a social initiative, Lok Setu may consider exceptional refund requests in the following special circumstances:

  • Financial Hardship: If a donor experiences sudden, severe financial hardship after making a donation
  • Significant Error: If there was a significant error in the donation amount (e.g., extra zero added by mistake)
  • Deceased Donor: If a donation was made by someone who has since passed away, and the legal heirs request a refund
  • Program Cancellation: If a specific program/campaign for which the donation was earmarked is cancelled before commencement

Such requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by our management committee, and decisions will be made considering both the donor's circumstances and our organizational commitments to ongoing social initiatives.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind about donating?

As a non-profit organization, donations are typically considered final contributions to support our social initiatives. However, if you've made a donation in error or there was a technical issue, you may request a refund within 14 days of the transaction.

What happens to my tax exemption certificate if I get a refund?

If a tax exemption certificate has already been issued for your donation and you receive a refund, the certificate becomes invalid. You should not claim that donation as tax-exempt on your tax returns. We will notify the appropriate authorities if required by law.

Can I redirect my donation to a different program instead of getting a refund?

We aim to review all refund requests within 5-7 business days of receiving complete information. Complex cases or those requiring additional verification may take up to 14 business days. We will keep you informed throughout the process.

What if I donated to a specific campaign that didn't reach its goal?

Funds from campaigns that don't reach their goals are typically redirected to similar initiatives within Lok Setu's broader mission. If you prefer your donation to be used differently or refunded in such cases, please contact us within 14 days of the campaign closing.
